Prints don’t fade all at once — it happens gradually. Over time, exposure to light, air, and changing conditions affects both the paper and the ink. The shift is slow, but visible. Preventing a print from fading is mostly about controlling these factors.
Avoid direct sunlight
Direct sunlight is the main cause of fading. UV exposure gradually breaks down pigments, even over short daily periods. Placing a print away from direct light helps preserve its original contrast and colour.
Use protective framing
Glass or acrylic creates a barrier between the print and its environment. UV-protective glazing offers additional protection, especially for long-term display.
Keep a stable environment
Humidity and temperature changes affect paper over time. A stable room — not too dry, not too humid — helps prevent both fading and warping.
Preserving a print over time isn’t about one action, but about consistent conditions.
